Why is the ReLEx® SMILE method more expensive than other laser eye methods?
The VisuMax laser from Zeiss is the latest device and the only laser with which the ReLEx® SMILE treatment can be performed. This device requires an investment of more than 1 million euros. Fixed costs, training costs and licenses on the device are also required. These costs are higher than with other devices and treatment methods.
Furthermore, the manufacturer of the VisuMax (Zeiss) only certifies the best surgeons to perform ReLEx® SMILE treatments, limiting the number of doctors who can perform this treatment.
These higher (investment) costs make the rate of the SMILE treatment more expensive than methods.
