Pre-examination
Unfortunately, this is not possible. During the preoperative examination, you will be given eye drops that affect the function of the eye muscles and the alignment of the eyes. These drops must wear off completely before a treatment can take place.
In addition, you will receive a great deal of important information during the preoperative examination. It is essential that you are given sufficient time to process and consider this information so that you can make a well-informed decision.
The drops (cyclopentolate) used during the preoperative examination temporarily reduce both distance and near vision. As a result, computer work and reading are often difficult or not possible.
This effect can last up to 24 hours, and sometimes even longer. It will resolve on its own, but the duration varies from person to person.
During the preoperative examination, a drop called cyclopentolate is used. This drop causes the pupil to dilate and temporarily reduces the function of the focusing muscle.
How long the effects last varies per person, but generally the effect lasts about 24 hours.
As a result, you may be more sensitive to light and have more difficulty seeing at close range.
The preoperative examination is free of charge and without obligation. We believe that providing clear and thorough information is very important. Prior to the examination, you must remove any contact lenses. This is necessary to obtain optimal and realistic measurement results. Wearing contact lenses can alter the structure and/or shape of the cornea and affect the stability of the tear film.
The appointment cannot take place if you have not discontinued wearing your lenses for a sufficient period of time.

Tip: You may switch from rigid or night lenses to soft contact lenses. This way, you only need to wear glasses for 2 weeks before the examination takes place.”
After six months, the measurements from the preoperative examination are no longer valid and cannot be used as a reference for your treatment.
For this reason, it is necessary to undergo a new preoperative examination after this period.
During the comprehensive preoperative examination, you will be given pupil-dilating eye drops. These drops are necessary to allow for a proper medical assessment. Because the drops cause reduced vision for at least 8 hours, it is not safe to drive yourself home.
For this reason, we advise you to come with someone who can take you home after the examination. You may, however, travel home independently by public transport or by bicycle.
In addition, please bring sunglasses and a cap to protect your eyes from bright sunlight.
During the examination, we perform multiple measurements to provide you with the best possible advice regarding laser eye surgery and lens implantation. Using advanced diagnostic equipment, your eyes are measured and assessed for suitability. Various tests are carried out to analyze, among other things, your cornea, retina, eye pressure, tear quality, and the expected outcome.

Yes, during the comprehensive preoperative examination, your suitability and medical condition are carefully assessed. In general, up to the age of 40, laser eye treatment or an implantable lens are among the options.
Between the ages of 40 and 50, in addition to laser eye treatment and an implantable lens, refractive lens exchange will also be discussed as a possible option.
From the age of 50 onwards, laser eye treatment is still possible; however, refractive lens exchange is often preferred, as this treatment provides a lifelong solution. The procedure can be performed in such a way that you can see both at distance and up close.

Treatments
The best preparation involves gathering thorough information about the procedure, both before and during the pre-examination. Listen carefully to the explanations, ask questions, and speak with people in your circle who have already undergone the treatment. On the day of the procedure, try to relax as much as possible you are in excellent hands with us. Follow the instructions given by our staff and the ophthalmologist. Before you know it, the treatment will already be over.
You will not feel any pain during the procedure. Before the treatment begins, your eye will be numbed with anesthetic eye drops.
When the laser is positioned on your eye, you may feel some pressure on the eye. However, this sensation is not painful. In addition, the laser works very quickly, so this feeling only lasts for a short time.
Some people find the idea of being fully conscious during laser eye surgery frightening. Research has even shown that this is the main reason why people decide not to undergo the procedure. However, most patients later find that it is far less intimidating than expected. During the treatment, you will receive eye drops that numb your eyes. The procedure is completely painless. In addition, most treatments are very short. Often, walking into and out of the clinic and the operating room takes longer than the treatment itself.
To guide you through the process, the surgeon will continue to speak with you throughout the procedure and keep you informed of its progress. Because you remain conscious, you will be able to notice an improvement in your vision immediately after the treatment.
Yes, that is indeed sensible. You are not allowed to go home alone after a treatment at Visus Eye Clinic. You may also consider having a taxi take you to a hotel.
After your treatment, we will offer you a drink and a sandwich with cheese or chicken fillet. You can enjoy this in the recovery room.
Please note that, depending on the treatment method, you will be at the clinic for approximately 2 to 4 hours. You may eat and drink as usual prior to the treatment.
This does not happen often, but it is possible. Just before the treatment, additional checks of your medical file are carried out. If the doctor does not fully support the treatment, he or she will discuss this with you and, in consultation with you, a decision will be made. Conversely, it may also happen that a patient decides to cancel the treatment at the last moment. Both the performing physician and the patient must fully support the chosen treatment.
In addition, it is important that all equipment functions properly. Throughout the day, we check our equipment several times. If the equipment does not meet the required standards, we are obliged to cancel the treatment.

In addition, it is essential that you read and fully understand the informed consent (the treatment agreement), as you will need to sign this at the clinic. The age range for laser eye treatment is generally between 18 and 65 years. We do not treat patients under the age of 18.
From around the age of 50, the advice will usually be to correct your prescription by replacing the natural eye lens with a trifocal and/or toric premium lens. The result of refractive lens exchange is permanent, whereas the result of laser treatment usually is not. As you age, the natural eye lens deteriorates, and this change affects your prescription, causing refractive error to return. When the natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens, this will not occur.

No. Although both CLEAR and ReLEx SMILE Pro are flapless laser vision correction procedures in which a so-called lenticule is removed from the cornea, they are two distinct treatment techniques.
ReLEx SMILE Pro was developed by ZEISS and is performed using the ZEISS VisuMax 800. CLEAR was developed by Ziemer and is performed using the Ziemer FEMTO Z8 NEO. Each system uses its own laser platform, software, and treatment algorithms, making them technically different procedures that cannot be compared on a one-to-one basis.

After the treatment
Most people are able to return to work the day after the procedure. A few hours after the treatment, the uncomfortable feeling has usually disappeared, and your vision is already clear enough to work.
The morning after your treatment, you will have a check-up. If everything looks normal, you can go to work right after this appointment.
Have you had a TransPRK procedure? In that case, the recovery takes a bit longer because the surface of the eye needs time to heal. You will also be wearing a bandage contact lens. You will return to the clinic after a few days to have this lens removed. For this reason, it may take about 3–4 days before you can return to work.
People who have undergone a lens replacement procedure can usually return to work after 1–2 days.
Although you can generally return to work relatively quickly after the procedure, your eyes will need more time to fully heal. The eye must stabilize, and this process can take anywhere from a few weeks to as long as six months. Your vision will continue to improve throughout this period.
Of course, anyone considering an eye laser treatment wants to know whether the result is permanent. The result of an eye laser treatment is permanent; the effect cannot be reversed. During the procedure, the cornea of the eye is reshaped in such a way that it cannot return to its original state. However, this does not mean that your eyes and prescription cannot change over the years.
As you get older, for example, you may develop cataracts. Reading glasses and other age-related issues will also appear at some point. Unfortunately, we cannot prevent these natural changes. Some people believe that an eye laser treatment is the reason they need reading glasses, but this is not true. Reading problems (presbyopia) have nothing to do with the cornea; they are caused by the natural aging of the eye’s own lens. There are solutions for this issue, such as monovision or lens replacement surgery.
With laser eye surgery, your eyes begin the healing process as soon as you sit up after the procedure. In the initial phase following treatment, an inflammatory response may occur. This is normal. Your immune system responds to the procedure by sending platelets and white blood cells to the treated area, which can cause swelling. As a result, your vision may temporarily appear slightly blurry after the treatment. This can happen even though your vision is already better than before the procedure, as your eye has adopted its new shape.
The swelling usually decreases within 24 hours, but in some cases it may take a bit longer. You will notice that your vision improves quickly during this process. In the period following the treatment, you will soon be able to resume your daily activities. It is important to be aware that during the initial recovery phase, you may experience increased glare around lights and some fluctuations in your vision. Keep this in mind when driving, especially at night. Streetlights and oncoming headlights may temporarily affect your vision.
After the procedure, the eyes may temporarily become drier. This can last for a period ranging from several weeks to a few months. During this time, artificial tears should be used to relieve discomfort and to prevent superficial drying damage to the eye. Most clinics follow a preventive protocol that includes the use of artificial tears after the procedure.
If you already suffered from dry eyes before the procedure for example, if you were no longer able to wear contact lenses—you will require more intensive follow-up care after the treatment.
Every medical treatment involves certain risks, and this also applies to laser eye surgery. One of the most common complaints after laser treatment is slightly reduced vision in low-light or dark conditions. In most cases, this resolves after a few weeks.
This depends on the type of treatment you have undergone.
TransPRK:
After the anesthetic wears off, your eyes may be sensitive for a few days until the outer layer has healed again. This can be compared to a superficial abrasion. You can use pain-relieving eye drops to manage the discomfort. After about 3 to 4 days, you can resume your normal activities. It takes approximately one week before your vision is almost completely clear. After about 6 months, your vision will be comparable to that achieved with IntraLASIK and Relex SmilePro.
IntraLASIK:
Once the anesthetic has worn off, you may experience irritation for a few hours. Your eyes may feel burning or scratchy. After approximately 4 hours, this sensation usually disappears and your vision will already be much clearer. Most activities can be resumed the following day. After about 3 days, your vision will have improved significantly, and after 6 months it will be optimal.
Relex SmilePro:
After the anesthetic wears off, you may experience some irritation in the eye. Your eyes may feel burning or scratchy. After approximately 4 hours, this sensation usually disappears and your vision will already be much clearer. You can resume almost all activities the next day. After 24 hours, your vision will have improved considerably and you will be able to see clearly. As with the other treatments, your vision will be optimal after 6 months.
Naturally, every person is different. Your healing process may therefore be faster or slower than described above.
That depends somewhat on the type of laser eye treatment you have chosen and your personal pain tolerance. Some people describe the sensation after a TransPRK procedure as irritation, similar to having shampoo in the eye, while others experience it as painful. It can be compared to a superficial abrasion. This feeling usually disappears after 2 to 3 days, once the outer layer of the cornea (the epithelium) has healed.
People who have undergone an IntraLASIK or Relex SmilePro procedure usually experience only a burning sensation for about 4 to 6 hours. Most people experience dry eyes afterward, for which we provide eye drops (artificial tears). How long this symptom lasts varies depending on the type of treatment and the individual.
This is a difficult question. It depends on what exactly you plan to do at the party, festival, or in the amusement park.
Think carefully about your activities and listen to your body. As a precaution and for your own safety, it is advisable to postpone these kinds of activities for at least two weeks.
One of the more common complaints after laser eye surgery is slightly reduced vision in low-light conditions. During the first few months after the procedure, it is common to experience light scattering (glare or halos, especially at dusk or in the dark) and a sensation of dry eyes. These side effects usually resolve on their own over time.
Is there a risk of permanent dry eyes after laser eye surgery?
In rare cases, recovery of corneal surface sensitivity may take longer than average (six months), and dry eye symptoms may still be present after 12 months, with or without simple treatment using artificial tears. It should also be taken into account that dry eyes can occur spontaneously, as this is one of the most common eye conditions. This complication is generally well treatable with special eye drops, occlusion of the tear ducts, bandage contact lenses, and treatment of the eyelid margins, which are often the underlying cause of the problem. The incidence of truly permanent dry eyes after a LASIK procedure in candidates who were tested beforehand and found to have good tear film quality is estimated to be less than 1 in 10,000.
The sensation of dry eyes is common during the first months after treatment. How long you may experience this depends on how your body responds, the treatment method chosen, and your daily activities or work. By following the eye drop protocol provided by us and using artificial tears consistently, you will experience the least discomfort from dry eyes.
In addition, you may take omega 3/6/9 supplements starting two weeks before the treatment and continuing up to six months afterward. Research has shown that omega 3/6/9 has a positive effect on tear film stability, thereby reducing the risk of dry eyes.
Developing permanently drier eyes than you had before the treatment is a small but recognized risk of laser eye surgery.
How long you should postpone sports depends on the type of sport you practice and the treatment method you have chosen. You will find more information about this in the information forms we provide.
In many cases, you can resume sports after 1 to 2 weeks. Be sure to check the information related to your specific treatment to see what applies to you.
When you will be able to see optimally again depends on the treatment method. Generally, this is within one day to one week.
Please keep in mind that the eye needs more time to heal completely. It is important to give your eyes sufficient time to recover. During the healing period, your vision may still fluctuate. Minor changes in your vision can occur for up to a year after the treatment.
As a rule, no pupil-dilating drops are used during a follow-up appointment. Your vision after the check-up will be no different from before the appointment. An exception applies, of course, if we have agreed with you in advance that pupil-dilating drops will be used.
In most cases, you can still wear (cosmetic/fashion) contact lenses after laser eye surgery. In practice, however, most people no longer feel the need to do so after refractive surgery.
Generally, you can start wearing (cosmetic) contact lenses again after about two weeks. If you want to be extra cautious, we recommend waiting four weeks before doing so.
Yes, it is not forbidden to have a glass of alcohol.
However, please keep in mind that alcohol dehydrates the body and therefore also the eyes. Especially in the first period after the treatment, it is important to keep your eyes well hydrated by using artificial tears.
In addition, excessive alcohol consumption can affect your coordination and judgment. This may cause you to accidentally rub your eyes or perform other actions that could interfere with the healing process.
We consider sexual activity a form of contact sport. Therefore, we advise postponing intercourse for a certain period after the treatment. This depends on the treatment method you have undergone; for this reason, it is best to consult the information leaflet you receive during the examination or after your treatment.
This has to do with the healing process. The speed of recovery differs from person to person and even from one eye to the other. What you experience in the first days after the treatment is therefore not indicative of the final result.
Vision is influenced by several factors, such as the brain adapting to the new situation, swelling in the cornea that still needs to subside, and temporary dryness of the eyes.
In general, vision is already quite good within two days, but it may fluctuate during the first weeks. Most people return to work after 1–3 days.
For most patients, the final result is achieved after 4 to 6 months. Officially, we consider a recovery period of one year before the situation is regarded as fully stable.
After laser eye surgery, it is not possible to drive yourself immediately. We therefore advise that you arrange for someone to pick you up.
Most people are able to drive again the day after the treatment, with the exception of TransPRK.
If your work requires a lot of driving, please keep in mind that your vision may still fluctuate during the first six months after the treatment. Using artificial tears more frequently can help in this case.
It is important to carefully follow the prescribed eye drop protocol for optimal recovery.

Although you can usually return to work fairly quickly after treatment, your eyes need more time to heal completely. The eyes need to stabilize, which can take anywhere from a few weeks to up to six months. During this period, your vision will continue to improve.
We advise patients to take it easy. Starting a busy period with exams or work deadlines immediately after the treatment is not recommended.
Most people experience dry eyes after the treatment. For this, we prescribe eye drops (artificial tears).
How long this symptom lasts varies per treatment and per person. A recovery period of approximately six months is not uncommon.
There is one mandatory follow-up appointment; any additional check-ups will be scheduled in consultation with you, based on the outcome of the treatment.
Payments
This depends on the type of treatment. After the procedure, you will receive a bag containing the eye drops you need for the first weeks following the treatment. These are provided by our in-house pharmacy, which will submit the costs to your health insurance provider. The costs range between €50 and €130.
Refractive surgery to improve vision or prevent deterioration of eyesight is a service that is exempt from VAT.
No, prescribed medication is not included in the all-inclusive treatment fee. The medication is supplied through our supervising pharmacy, claimed from your health insurance provider, and given to you after your treatment. We do this to better serve you, so that you do not need to visit your own local pharmacy to collect the prescription after the procedure.
Depending on the treatment method, the cost of the prescribed medication ranges between €50 and €130. The information you receive from us includes a price indication for your specific treatment. These medications are reimbursed by your health insurance, although you should take your deductible (own risk) into account.
Yes, it is possible to receive reimbursement for cataract surgery. Cataracts are a medical condition, and the procedure is covered by basic health insurance. You can expect reimbursement of approximately €700 per eye. Please consult your policy terms and/or your health insurer for the exact amount. With a restitution policy, the reimbursement is higher.
Health insurers only reimburse monofocal lenses, which means you will still need reading glasses after cataract surgery. Reimbursement for a premium lens (trifocal/toric lens) is only partially covered through supplementary insurance, and not all insurers offer this reimbursement.

Financing through Visus Eye Clinic is not possible. You will need to arrange financing yourself through (private) institutions on the market. Paying for a treatment in instalments is also not possible. We recommend saving the full amount of your treatment and paying it to us in one single payment.liniek is niet mogelijk. At Visus Eye Clinic, payment can only be made via a bank transfer.
We advise you to take any daily transfer limits into account. Adjusting your daily limit is usually easy and differs per bank, but processing can sometimes take up to one day. If you make a bank transfer, please consider your bank’s processing time. The full amount for your treatment must be received in our account at least two working days before the treatment.
All follow-up appointments after your treatment are free of charge. This allows us to closely monitor your recovery and provide you with the best possible care, without any additional costs.
No, this is not possible. The full amount must be credited to our bank account on the day of treatment.
The costs of aids to support vision, such as contact lenses or glasses, or laser eye surgery as a replacement for glasses, are not tax deductible.
Yes, to receive reimbursement for a treatment from supplementary insurance, you need an invoice that includes healthcare product codes. This invoice can only be issued after the treatment has taken place. We can prepare this invoice with the required healthcare product codes for you, which you can then submit to your health insurer. This invoice meets the requirements set by health insurers.
In rare cases, a patient may qualify for a medical authorization and corresponding reimbursement from the basic health insurance. During the preliminary examination, our medical team will assess whether you are eligible for reimbursement from the basic insurance. If so, they will provide you with more information and guide you through the process. In this situation as well, a detailed invoice is required, which can only be issued after the treatment.
Many health insurers reimburse a small portion of the costs of laser eye treatment or lens implantation through supplementary insurance.

In some cases, with exceptional medical necessity and after approval from your health insurer, refractive surgical treatment may be reimbursed from the basic insurance. Medical necessity may include contact lens intolerance combined with a large difference in diopters (>4) between both eyes, or a high prescription greater than −10. Our optometrists are familiar with the conditions and will inform you if you may be eligible for reimbursement from the basic insurance.
The full amount for your treatment must be received by us no later than two working days before the treatment date.

Quality
We recommend making your selection based on the quality standards set by the professional associations. In the Netherlands, the overarching professional body is the Dutch Ophthalmological Society (NOG), and for refractive surgery specifically, the Dutch Society for Refractive Surgery (NGRC).
The NOG advises patients to choose ZKN-certified clinics and to be treated by NGRC-certified refractive surgeons. These certifications can only be obtained after multiple rigorous audits, during which the quality of medical care and the knowledge and skills of the doctors are assessed.
Visus Eye Clinic has four BIG-registered ophthalmologists, all of whom are individually certified as NGRC refractive surgeons. In addition, Visus Eye Clinic has been a full member since 2016 and is annually assessed and successfully certified with the ZKN quality mark.

Safety
If you are over the age of 45, it is common for the natural lens of the eye to no longer be flexible enough to focus sharply at different distances, even when the eye is properly corrected.
Many people use a simple trick to continue reading: they take off their distance glasses or look underneath them. This makes it seem as though you do not need reading glasses, but in reality, you do. You simply see better up close without your glasses than with them.
Most common refractive errors can be corrected with laser eye treatment. During laser eye surgery, the prescription needed to see clearly at distance is corrected.
Laser eye treatment is possible for prescriptions ranging from +7.00 to −10.00 diopters and astigmatism up to −6.00 diopters.
For higher prescriptions and/or a cornea that is too thin, an implantable lens (ICL) may be a suitable solution. If you suffer from cataracts and/or dependence on reading glasses, a lens replacement procedure may be more appropriate.

Laser eye treatment helps you get rid of your distance prescription. Most patients do not need glasses for distance vision for the rest of their lives after the treatment.
However, it is important to understand that the eyes continue to age over time. The natural lens of the eye gradually becomes less flexible and often slightly yellower. As a result, the need for reading glasses may develop at some point.

A lazy eye is quite common. Around 3% of children develop a lazy eye. We are often asked whether laser treatment can fix this problem. To answer this question as clearly as possible, it may be helpful to first understand what a lazy eye actually is. A lazy eye (amblyopia) is caused by incorrect communication between the brain and the affected eye. There are two primary causes of a lazy eye: the first is improper alignment of the eyes, also known as strabismus. The second cause is a large difference in prescription between the eyes (more than 4.0D), also known as anisometropia. Because of this difference, the brain favors the stronger “healthy” eye over the “lazy” eye. Over time, the “lazy” eye’s vision becomes weaker. If the condition is not treated before the age of seven, the problem can persist into adulthood. It is not possible to correct a lazy eye later in life, as the brain has already established a fixed way of communicating with the eyes that can no longer be changed.
With laser treatment, we can correct a refractive error so that the lazy eye achieves the same visual acuity that you currently have with glasses or contact lenses, but further improvement cannot be expected. It is therefore important to be properly informed beforehand about whether laser treatment will be beneficial for you or not.
Although the likelihood is very small, it is possible that during laser eye surgery the correction is slightly too strong or not strong enough. This occurs mainly in people with higher refractive errors. In most cases, it concerns a mild undercorrection, where the prescription is not fully corrected.
A small residual refractive error usually causes little to no discomfort. In fact, a slight degree of myopia may even allow you to go a bit longer without reading glasses. If it does cause discomfort, a retreatment is possible. We recommend waiting at least one year before undergoing a retreatment, so that your eyes can fully stabilize.

Age-related farsightedness (presbyopia)

It is difficult to set a strict age limit for laser eye treatments. In most people, the natural lens of the eye begins to become cloudy (cataract) after the age of 60, making laser eye surgery less advisable. In such cases, a lens replacement procedure is usually a better option. The optometrist and the doctor will assess your situation together with you to determine which solution best suits your needs.
People who wear contact lenses often do not realize that this involves certain risks. Research has shown that contact lens wearers have an approximate risk of 1 in 1,000 of developing eye damage due to infections. In addition, damage can occur as a result of scarring, scratches, or the formation of new blood vessels in the eye.

Most people achieve optimal vision again after about one month. However, the eye needs more time to fully heal after the procedure. During this period, your vision may still fluctuate slightly. TransPRK is particularly suitable for patients who, for example, have a thin cornea and a low degree of myopia.

In a TransPRK treatment, your eyes are not physically touched.
During the procedure, the laser removes a thin layer from the surface of the eye, which naturally grows back. The laser is computer-controlled. With the introduction of the Schwind Amaris laser, all procedures on the surface of the eye can be performed without touching the eye.
Unlike other treatment methods, the license for TransPRK is the least expensive, as we do not have to pay per eye.
LASEK
Although LASEK offers many advantages such as being a safer option for patients with a thinner cornea or for those who have an increased risk of physical eye injury it is performed less frequently than LASIK. This is mainly due to the longer recovery period and the potential for greater discomfort in the first few days after surgery.
LASIK provides faster visual recovery and less immediate postoperative discomfort, making it a more popular choice for many patients. In addition, with advancing technology, new methods and techniques have been developed that can offer similar results with a quicker recovery, further reducing the demand for LASEK.
Nevertheless, LASEK remains a valuable option for certain groups of patients, and the choice of a specific procedure should always be made in consultation with a specialized ophthalmologist, based on the patient’s individual needs and circumstances.
LASEK stands for Laser-Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratectomy, a type of refractive surgery designed to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is an alternative to LASIK surgery, with some differences in the recovery process.
LASEK has a strong track record of long-term safety and effectiveness.
Most patients maintain their improved vision for many years, although some may eventually need reading glasses due to age-related changes in vision.
The LASEK procedure involves softening and gently moving aside the epithelium, after which the underlying cornea is treated with an excimer laser.
After the treatment, the epithelium is repositioned and covered with a contact lens that acts as a bandage.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with LASEK, including infection, dry eyes, light sensitivity, and, in rare cases, a reduction in best-corrected vision.
LASEK is particularly suitable for patients with thinner corneas who are not eligible for LASIK, or for people who, due to their profession or lifestyle, have an increased risk of eye injuries.
General
In an IntraLASIK treatment, the surgeon creates what is known as a flap. The cornea consists of six thin layers of tissue. When creating a flap, the surgeon uses the laser to loosen three of these layers. The opening is about 20 mm long and has the shape of a horseshoe. The flap is then lifted, like turning a page, so the laser can treat the exposed tissue underneath.
In the Relex SmilePro treatment, a small lens-shaped piece of tissue is created beneath the surface of the cornea using the VisuMax laser. The surgeon then makes a small opening (2–4 mm) in the cornea with the laser to remove this lenticule. This reduces the risk of complications. Because the Relex SmilePro procedure requires only a very small incision, far fewer corneal nerves are disrupted, which significantly reduces the chance of developing dry eyes after the treatment.
All treatments have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is difficult to say which treatment is best for you. This depends, among other things, on your personal preferences, your circumstances (such as work and sports), and the type of eye condition you have.
We will, of course, provide you with extensive information about all the advantages and disadvantages of the different treatment methods so that you can make an informed choice yourself. However, you cannot make a wrong decision. All methods are safe, effective, and have a very high success rate.
TransPRK:
With this treatment, the outer thin layer of the cornea is removed. After the procedure, you will wear a protective bandage contact lens for a few days. The total treatment time is only about 30 seconds per eye.
IntraLASIK:
In this procedure, the doctor creates a flap using the VisuMax laser. The underlying tissue is then treated with an excimer laser. The treatment takes approximately 2 to 5 minutes per eye.
Relex SmilePro:
In this treatment, a small lens-shaped piece of tissue is created beneath the surface of the cornea using the VisuMax laser. The surgeon then makes a small opening in the cornea to remove this lenticule. This treatment also takes approximately 1 to 5 minutes per eye.
Yes, this is possible. However, it is generally not recommended.
Treating only one eye can disrupt the balance between the eyes. If you wish to have one eye treated at a time because you are concerned that something might go wrong, it may be worth reconsidering whether to undergo the procedure at all. It is important to have confidence in the treatment.
You may bring someone with you to drop you off and/or pick you up.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring someone into the operating room. During the procedure, you will be in the operating room with the ophthalmologist and the medical team, who will guide you through the process and support the surgeon.

Moving your head or eyes is not always desirable during the treatment.

After laser eye surgery, your eyes begin healing as soon as you sit up after the procedure.
In the first phase after treatment, a normal inflammatory response may occur. Your immune system sends platelets and white blood cells to the treated area, which can cause slight swelling. This may temporarily make your vision appear a bit blurry, even though your eyes already have the corrected shape and are seeing better than before the procedure.
The swelling usually decreases within 24 hours but can sometimes last a bit longer. During this healing process, your vision improves quickly, and you can generally resume daily activities soon after.
It is important to be aware that in the early recovery phase, you may notice glare or halos around lights and fluctuations in vision. Take extra care when driving, especially at night, as streetlights and oncoming headlights can temporarily reduce visual clarity.
On the day of treatment, you will be at the clinic for approximately 2 to 3 hours in total.
Of this time, you will spend about 15 minutes in the treatment room.
The actual laser procedure takes only 30 to 45 seconds per eye, depending on the chosen treatment method.

Why Wavefront helps:
- Vision quality is partly affected by optical irregularities called aberrations.
- Aberrations are caused by tiny bumps and dips in the cornea, which scatter light and reduce visual clarity.
- Some aberrations can be corrected with standard laser treatment, but others can cause reduced contrast, night vision problems, glare, halos, or shadows.
- Wavefront-guided treatment corrects these irregularities as much as possible.
Clinical studies show that patients treated with Wavefront have better night vision and experience fewer halos and glare compared to standard treatments.
One way to reduce dependence on reading glasses after laser eye surgery is to use the monovision principle.
This means:
- One eye (usually the dominant eye) is corrected for distance vision.
- The other eye is corrected for near vision.
It is important to try this principle before committing. If you are interested, we can advise which contact lenses or trial glasses to use. You will receive a prescription called a “monovision advice”, and you decide whether you want to proceed with treatment based on this principle.
In some cases, monovision can also be created by treating only one eye. Even then, you will need to test at home to see if this approach suits you.
Adapting to monovision is easier for some people than for others.
We recommend taking at least 6 months to get used to monovision.
If you decide later that monovision is not suitable for you, it is usually possible to reverse the effect. This can be done with TransPRK or IntraLASIK to adjust the correction.
To determine if monovision is suitable for you, it’s best to try a “trial period” first.
This involves wearing glasses or contact lenses with monovision correction for about two weeks. This allows you to experience whether your eyes and brain can adapt to the difference in focus.
During the assessment, the ophthalmologist may ask questions such as:
- Do you have work or hobbies that require sharp distance vision?
- Do you read a lot or have work/hobbies that require good near vision?
- Do you frequently drive long distances at night?
- Are you older than 55 years?
If you answer “yes” to one or more of these questions, monovision may not be the best option. Your ophthalmologist will help guide you in making the right choice.
In monovision, one eye is set for distance and the other for near vision.
This can affect:
- Depth perception – It may be slightly reduced.
- Distance vision in low light – Vision at night or in dim conditions can be less sharp. Some people may still need glasses for night driving.
