Lens replacement treatment process
To give you a complete understanding of lens replacement treatment, we'll guide you through every step of the process, starting with the first important step: scheduling a free preliminary examination. During this preliminary examination, we'll determine your eligibility for this treatment and discuss your personal situation.
During this appointment, our specialized ophthalmologists will perform a thorough evaluation of your eyes to determine if you are a suitable candidate for treatment.
After the extensive preliminary examination has been completed and you and our team have made a well-considered decision about your treatment, it is time to undergo the actual treatment.
An important part of aftercare is the follow-up check-up, where your ophthalmologist will check your eyes and evaluate your recovery.

We're happy to help.
We are required to publish our treatment data with the Dutch Society for Refractive Surgery (NGRC). At the moment, Visus Eye Clinic has the lowest number of complications among all clinics in the Netherlands.
This is because we work with the best surgeons and the best equipment. In addition, we place great emphasis on the pre-examination. During this assessment, we thoroughly examine your eyes and look for any conditions that may increase your risk of complications. This allows us to take preventive measures. In some cases, the doctor may even advise against undergoing the procedure.
We also provide excellent aftercare. Should anything arise, we can respond quickly. Fortunately, this is rarely necessary.
Lens replacement with premium lenses is generally not performed under the age of 45.
If the distance prescription is highly myopic (minus), the age limit is usually around 50 years. In addition, you should be dependent on reading glasses (a multifocal prescription).
Implantable lenses are made of a soft, transparent material that you cannot see or feel in your eyes.
Most implantable lenses are so-called monofocal lenses, meaning they correct only one type of refractive error, either nearsightedness (minus) or farsightedness (plus).

A premium lens is a lens that can be implanted instead of a standard monofocal artificial lens during cataract or lens replacement surgery. These advanced lenses are designed to provide the best possible vision with minimal dependence on glasses—allowing clear vision at near, far, or multiple distances.
There are several types of premium lenses:
- Toric lens (a monofocal lens that also corrects astigmatism)
- Multifocal / trifocal lens
- Multifocal / trifocal toric lens
- Extended Range of Vision (EDOF) lens
- Toric EDOF lens (Extended Range of Vision lens with astigmatism correction)
Implant lenses (also known as intraocular lenses) are made from materials such as acrylic or silicone that are biocompatible. This means they do not trigger an immune response or an allergic reaction from the body. As a result, they do not need to be replaced and generally last a lifetime.
If there is ever a reason to replace the lenses, this is certainly possible for example, if someone is less satisfied with the visual outcome or if a newer technique becomes available in the future.
